On Sunday, May 5th, 2024, it is estimated that 500 residents of the Wood Buffalo region and honoured guests gathered at Kiyam Community Park in Fort McMurray for a day of events. The day was planned by the MMEIP Taskforce, which includes partners from the ATC - Athabasca Tribal Council, Nistawoyou Association Friendship Centre, and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, along with Elders, grassroots advocates, and local support organizations.

The Memorial Round Dance was emceed by Adrian Foureagles Dancing LaChance, with Stick Man Randy Marten. Special guests were Cree Confederation and Fawn Wood.
